In M theory can universes share dimensions?

I'm writing a story in which I posit that strings have an harmonic resonance that determines which universe they manifest in.  Of course this suggests that the dimension the strings originate in be shared throughout the multiverse.  Just wanted to check and see if this was discounted as I can't find anything specifica about it.  All I could find was that the dimensions could be any size.
