in calculating efficiency of transistor amplifier, why ac power given in to transistor is not considered

For transistor amplifier efficiency is ...output power√∑input power but when considering input power only dc power provided to transistor for biasing is taken into account but ac signal given at base of transistor which is amplified is not considered... why?
