I was recently narrating the life story of a girl from Dindigul who got married to a police constable at the age of 14. She was not even reached class 10. She became the mother of two kids by the age of 18. During that time she had to accompany her husband to a police parade. She was in the gallery watching the parade. AFter the parade, she was very much impressed. She asked her husband, “Who are those people whom you saluted?”The constable replied, “They are our senior Officers. They are IPS Officers”She said, “I also want IPS. I want to get this salute”Tell me, is this realistic or not? Was it within her reach or not?She went on telling, everyday, “I want that salute, the ceremonial one, in front of lakhs of people, I want IPS”Her husband tried to explain, “You have not even passed matriculation!””I will do anything, but i want that”Understanding the seriousness and the depth of her wishes and dreams, she was allowed to study privately for class 10 which she passed with good marks, then PUC and then degree too.The dreams and the strong determination guidend her.The it was time to prepare for the Civil Services. She was arranged accommodation as paying guest in Chennai. She started attending coaching classes and prepared well. When the time came, she wrote the exam but could not clear the prelims. She tried for the second time, she could not clear .She attempted again for the third time, She could not clear the prelims. Now the family and her husband told, you come back. There is no problem. We can do something else. She said, Give me one more chance. I want to attempt once more. And this was the turning point. She appeared for the fourth time. SHe cleared Prelims. Then the mains and performed well in the interview. And she is now DCP of Mumbai Zone 4N Ambika IPS.
I cite this as the best example of how our determination, our dreams and the incessant efforts to achieve it lead to the fulfilment of our dreams. Just the sight of a ceremonial salute and the strong wish to get it for herself changed everything. This is the type of conspiracy that the universe makes when someone has powerful dreams and becomes ready to put in all effort.
“The Philosophers who worked in search of the Philosophers’ stone and those set themselves dedicated to find the elixir of life”The works of those in search of the Philosopher’s stone didn’t go in vain, They made the beginning. The beginning itself was so wonderful that anyone who got touched by the idea got fascinated and this lead to a group of philosophers setting aside everything and did series of experiments. Though THEY were not successful if finding out a way or means to turn anything to gold, it helped the evolvement and enrichment of the Natural Philosophy. The Alchemists and the work which followed for years helped the development of the present day science, which is better than GOLD. The efforts also resulted in the discovery of many more precious metals other than Gold.
Which supports my theory “If you are not getting the one you are dreaming for, Better ones are awaiting you” The advancement in Science and Technology which capacitated the then philosophers the present scientists to work wonders, all started from the quest for the mysterious substance which could turn anything to Gold. I would like to say this was not a reverie, but it was a challenging and motivational beginning; unless for the sparkling of the GOLD involved in it, the alchemists wouldn’t have so many followers.Similar is the research on Elixir of life. Extensive research is going on REGENERATIVE REPROGRAMMING. We “grow old” and approach death mainly because of the system stops producing new cells. Now In Vivo reprogramming is under research and implementation on animals to increase the lifespan and combat the irreversibility of ageing.Though both the streams started with an apparently impossible concept, but what they resulted were worth more than what they actually wanted. To add, the amount of quality literature that resulted from the concept; aren’t they priceless? How well it is catching the attention and imagination of children and adult alike in Harry Porter etc(Let the discussions go on. Reflections and reactions welcomed)
